Coventry City of Culture Trust are building a team of over 5000 volunteers who together will play a central role in making Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture a huge success. From May 2021 until May 2022, our community of volunteers will support the extensive programme of cultural events, be they online, indoors or in the open air – whatever the weather and wherever they might be. The challenge was to create a piece for the Volunteer Uniform that reflects the brand and values of Coventry City of Culture, as well as fulfilling the practical requirements to be inclusive and fit for purpose. As a designer I need to have the ability to create a solution that not only meets the brief but is itself a distinctive part of the cultural offer.

For this project, I decided to do a windbreaker, an umbrella, a scarf, a mask, and a water bottle. This wew the most useful assets for the volunteers. For this year the masks were almost an obligation, so I had to do it, water bottles are always useful, winter or summer, umbrellas are a great way of getting atention while protecting the user, the windbreaker is great to identify who are the users and to protect from cold and so are the scarves.

Here are a few pictures from the process
